A Big Wedding

Anybody who is a sucker for happiness loves a good wedding and I’m no exception. Last Saturday, MDA Executive Director, Vicki Wilbers, and her husband, Tooter, celebrated with friends and family as their only daughter, Macyn, wed Mr. Anthony Hansen. It was a long-anticipated affair and the big day did not disappoint. The bride and groom, the church, the mother of the bride, the reception – everything was classy and beautiful. There’s such a joy when a community of family and friends gather to celebrate a monumental day. I tried to chronicle in-the-moment-photos in between happy conversations over good drinks and a full meal. The official photographs are stunning.

Vicki has been at the MDA for more than 30 years. Many of you know her well and her love for family and rejoice in this happy occasion. I first met Macyn as a high school freshman. Over the years it’s been fun to watch her mature and find her path in life which now includes Anthony. It was an honor to see it unfold. After the ceremony and the traditions, the live band rocked late into the night and there was plenty of boot scooting by all parties. Just the way joy should feel. Kudos to all the Wilbers.

A Big Loss

Life is a full spectrum journey and often the news is sad. Earlier this week, we learned of Dr. Jake Lippert’s passing on July 5. He predated my time at the MDA and I only met him once, but over the years I have heard numerous stories—all very positive—about his leadership and influence as a dentist and as a former Executive Director for the MDA. I know many of you echo this sentiment. The MDA has lost one of the good guys. You can read more here, including information about services on Saturday, July 22. If you wish to send a gift in his honor, you can do so through the MDA Foundation here. Be sure to email me if you do, so I can properly acknowledge all parties. Thank you.

MOSDOH Hosts Clinic for Veterans

There’s so much good being done in dentistry that it’s hard to capture it all. Thankfully, I just saw this story about Dr. Herb Silva and MOSDOH teaming up with Affinia for a free outreach to veterans. Love to see this, and thanks to all who give their time to help and honor our veterans.

The Week Ahead

We jumped back into the fryer after the long holiday weekend and next week is packed as well with orientation for D1s at MOSDOH, Zoom calls galore, a GSLDS Member Appreciation event (a pajama party!), an EFDA course in Independence and a white coat ceremony at MOSDOH. We will see what photos we can wrangle and report back to you. I hope it’s a good week for you as well.
