The Week That Was Blog: January 23-27

One Ringy Dingy Behold the power of the telephone! Remember when people used to make phone calls with their phones? That was the emphasis this past Wednesday when MDA held its third annual calling party. About 22 volunteer leaders and staff took a few hours to call colleagues around the state who haven’t renewed their 2023 membership. It wasn’t a strong-arm collection effort. It was a person-to-person outreach to encourage members to help us stay strong and to get involved with upcoming events. The reports of response were very positive. More than 200 dials were made and at least 20 more members renewed for 2023. The trends are very positive. Thanks to all who made calls and work hard to keep the association strong. MDA Board Meets for First Time in 2023 The Q1 meeting of the MDA Board was earlier today, and it was four action-packed hours. MDA President, Dr. Jeremy Bowen, led the proceedings which included a presentation from the National Center for Interstate Compacts. The presentation focused on the path, eligibility and structure for an opportunity for dentists to obtain a privilege to practice in states with a compact without having to get a license in that state. It’s an intriguing concept that is just starting to get some traction across the state. Many other health provider organizations already use this model. In other news Olivia Wilson, MDA  lobbyist, laid out the MDA agenda for this legislative session and there were some changes approved in the structure and focus of the MDA New Dentist Committee. Did you know that any member may attend any MDA Board meeting? It’s a great way to see the priorities and process of the Board. Plus you get a feel for the different leaders from other components. I was thrilled to see we had two guests from Greater St. Louis Dental Society join us today. Dr. Robin Hayes and Dr. Andrea Morris were welcomed additions to the meeting. If this option appeals to you, mark your calendars for the Q2 meeting here in Jefferson City on April 28.
The Week Ahead Exciting times are on the calendar with the GLDS officer installation set for tomorrow night and the Virtual Town Hall set for next Wednesday, February 1 at 6pm. I encourage all members to join us for a quick but insightful look at the session ahead from the viewpoint of our legislative leaders. Register now! Quote of the Week Membership Matters, Renew Today!
